A day at the fair

Yesterday we went to the fair. I basically love fairs. I like the fried food, riding cheesy rides and looking at all the entries. Oh, and I like making money. This year, I made $145.  I am pretty much a happy clam. I entered these killer brownies that won Best in Division and Best in show. In other words, $75 dollars. I even considered not entering them, because they did look horrible! But of course, I'm thrilled I did because they can support my shopping endeavors. I am now thinking of all the great things I can buy. And I wish Fairs came more often. Because I know it won't be too long before I'm broke again.

PS: What do you think of my dress? It was not what I pictured making, but it turned out cute. Its also kind of Retro! (Eeek! I love retro/vintage stuff.)

Happy things

Dad and KJ are out of town. Its party time! That is, if you consider reading economics or studying Greek partying. I don't.

So instead of thinking of terrible things, lets think of happy things shall we? Like Navy blue and white stripes?
All from Kate Spade, all over $300. All of these will never enter my closet. I thought we were supposed to be talking about happy things to get our minds of economics? This conversation is turning dismal.

Lets talk about glasses. Glasses are happy. I got my 2 new pairs. I love one. I have not worn the other pair enough to know if I love them or not. When I do wear them, I feel like I have goggles on and end up taking them off 5 seconds later.

Also, I started to achieve one of my new years goals! Happy Happy thought. If you want to look back at them, click the lovely image with chevron stripes to the right of this. I'll let you guess which one I'm working on, I think you might know.

And if all else fails, I resort to Hand Sanitizer. A forever source of happiness.
And it happens to be a little cheaper than a Kate Spade dress. Like $298.50 cheaper.

What I would wear

There's a homeschool dance coming up and as much as I'd like too, I won't be one the attendees. But just because I'm not going does not mean I can't think about what I would wear...right? Okay, I make no sense.

I personally am not a fan of skimpy, teenage prom dresses. They are always, too tight, too short and sometimes fairly ugly. I prefer a little more elegant looking style.

I wish I had $200 dollars laying around so I could get this! Isn't it just darling? I love the color, and the bow is sort of weird, but with a cardigan and belt this would be extra adorable.This one I could actually think about buying, but it seems kind of silly to waste all my Christmas money on one dress. I love the layers of pleats on this one and while green is generally not my favorite color, I love this shade.

So that's what I'd be wearing if I were going. I get my new glasses today, I'll show you some pictures I'm sure!

Goals (that involve lip gloss.)

New Years Resolutions anyone? Here are mine. Be assured, I'll forget them all by February.

Get more lenses and improve my photography-Improving is always a good thing. I think first on my list are filters and a macro lens.

Sew More- I want to sew fancy, pretty dresses with lovely material. Enough said. Oh, and I'd like them to be retro/vintage.

Play a sport- This is a new thing for me! I would really like to play volleyball and maybe track? On second thought, no thanks. Volleyball is just fine.

Learn HTML/Corel Draw- I have always wished I could design my own templates and stuff like that. 2012 is the year to do it!

Grow my lip gloss collection - Wow this is really something to aspire too right.......right?! Okay, not so much, but I still would like to do this.

And there you have them. What are your new years resolutions? I hope they are all a little better than Number 5.....

I'm off to bath and body works to begin accomplishing goals!

Why letters are lovely

You've already seen The Circle Garland, which was made from old cards.

These are my typewriter flowers! They are darling.

I used a letter my friend wrote on her typewriter. I love the color variation between each letter. It's so unique and vintage.

And I hated the thought of throwing all its typewriter loveliness away. So I made a few simple rolled paper flowers out of it.
The result was wonderful.

PS: I know this does not really go along with the Pink Christmas theme, but I just decided to include it anyway. I shot these with a pink background! That makes it all better.

The big reveal!

The first Pink Christmas Craft, woot woot. It has to do with that pink rick rack I've shown you....

It's my stocking for the year! At first, everyone thought it would not be Christmasy in the least. But now that it is finished, it is the perfect mix of pink and Christmas.
First, lay out your rick rack on the stocking. I mixed a few different shades of pink to make it a little more fun, but it can be done with any color. (You could also sew the rick rack on with clear thread, but I was feeling kind of lazy so I went with a hot glue gun.)


Press it down.

Then, trim the end at the bottom of the stocking and put a tiny bit of hot glue on the end of the rick rack to keep it from fraying.

Then add the other 2 (or as many as you want!)

I added some rick rack flowers to the top with the leftover rick rack. I would love to show you how to make these, but I can't really even get them right.

This project was really fun and added a little pizzazz to a regular stocking. Rick rack is $1.00 a yard. I used 4 yards for this (You do the math), and it turns out to be pretty inexpensive.

The last week!

Yes! Another instalment in my online architecture course. I will be rid of my "peace bus" projects in a week. I am thrilled.



If you don't like that, you may as well leave. I personally am in love with all the retro people. I think this is a great ending to my wonderful architecture design.

The Weekly Post

Yes, It's already week 8. I know you have been eagerly waiting for this week's design!

Well, there is it.

I love this one! (I think I say that every time, but this time I really mean it!) The font is amazing, first of all. And then I adore all the colors in clip art.

I already designed week 9 because I'm having so much fun designing. It is the cutest one yet. But you'll have to be patient!

Dyed vs. White

Let's Compare and contrast!

The pom poms on the left are the ones I dyed. The ones on the right are in their natural state.
I personally prefer the white ones. Why? Because I love white. And dying them takes a long time and it ruins the poofyness.

But then again, I like the sort of misshapen look of the blue one. And I like the fact that it's blue. I pretty much like them both alot.

A project for those of us who don't like coffee

Coffee Filter Pom Poms of course! Aren't these darling?

First, flatten 30 filters (for 3 pom poms.) Next, divide into equal groups of three (I'll do the math for you because I'm nice and because its easy : 10 per pom.) Staple in the center, cut a hole and put some string through it (Again, I used yarn. But, embroidery floss or fishing line would work too.) The last thing is to poof them all up!

Such a fun easy project. I didn't dye these, but I did that with another batch, I'll let you know how those go. I love things that are pure white, so I didn't mind not having dyed ones.
Perfect addition to my paper lanterns. Have fun with this!

What winter weather does to me

I've been making a lot of cute little things lately. When the weather turns colder, I get busy inside. Last winter it was knitting. This year, it seems to be paper flowers/paper crafts. Both are delightful!
These Tissue flowers are so cute and easy. I've made a bunch of them. I love of poofy they are. I am a serious fan of poofy things.
Remember these from Red Rose day? I finally conquered them! And look how purdey they are! I can't believe I couldn't figure this out before. You wait - One week and my room will be covered in theses little cuties.
I was always impressed with people who made their own gift bows, so naturally I was impressed when I made one. I used an old magazine (See the rubber ducky?) When Christmas rolls around, these will be a perfect way to impress a lucky recipient.
This is my favorite. I'll post about it later. I used old cards and made this adorable garland for my cork board.

Yes, there's more.

I know. More Architecture boringness. I'm sorry. Okay, I'm actually not. I'm having so much fun with this project, you might as well hear about it.I LOVE this. First off, the flower is absolutely lovely. And then the font! I tried a different font. I fell in love. I think it is incredible. Its simple. Classy. Way too cute.


So I continued with the different font for the my museum page. I used vintage style words and a white background like the last page. I like this one too. I am not sure about the yellow however. Any thoughts?

Simple. Cute. Blue. I love all those things. Its not really keeping with the vintage theme of my other pages, but I decided I had to use it because I love the pattern. It reminds me of a Vera Bradley. Naturally, I'm in love.

Vintage Design

Since the Garden of Happiness went random, posts, sanity and everything else I hold dear went with it. Do not despair! I have much planned for you. And yes, it might just involve my feet.

I am participating in an online Architecture Class this semester. I really really love it. My favorite part has been designing my website for it. I decided make it vintagey (Is that a word? If not, it is now!)(These are alot smaller than I thought they would be, sorry!)

For the first page, I kept the background white and added a vintage piece of clip art. This paged turned out to be one of my faves. I do love little things.

Another favorite, week one. I used a simple scale background and added a cute post card. I do love post cards too. I love how colorful the background is and the cute design of the card.

Week Two has some cute floral's on it. I had some white space on the image I was using for the background. To work around it, I made the lines into "dividers" for the title.

This was by far my least cohesive page. I really loved the background- the soft grey and powered pink with little birds. But because this was a repeating pattern, I couldn't piece it together like I did some of the other images. I used the image 4 times to make the background and then used stamps to try and cover up the "seams."

More Postcards! Week 4 is similar to week one, different post card and background though. I centered the postcard to make if more of the focal, since I didn't have the dividing lines on this page.

Same scales as from week one. I decided to re-use them because I loved the colors.
