KRYN'S FIRST SNOW DAY

When they cancel school for the day at 8:20... but you're already in your 8am class.
Even though I did live in Montana for a couple years, we never had the luxury of snow days because our school was um, in our house haha. So you can imagine how excited I was when the forecast predicted sheets of sleet and snow. The entire walk to class in sleeting hail I was praying that a.) I wouldn't slip and b.) that school would be cancelled for the day. And Jesus was listening! I wish he maybe would have anticipated the prayers so I could have stayed in bed all together but either way, we got my wish. A snow day! No school!

Honestly, I've seen better snow and if I'm REALLY being honest, I wouldn't have minded going to class anyway. But hey, now I can say that I've officially had my first snow day. And when I'm 80 years old, I'll be sure and exaggerate the details and say that I was walking uphill to class both ways through deep drifts of snow and my grandkids will no doubt be very impressed.

Or at least, they'd better pretend to be :)

(Mal and Haley were great sports in the snow. They were my first friends here and I'm happy we got to dance in the snow....i mean slip on ice, together!)

Winter Break

'Tis the season for a great compilation post!

It wouldn't be a true winter break without a lack of posts and then a post months later that's as long as a child's Christmas wish list. Due to the stress of finals, it hardly felt like Christmas until...after Christmas? It will definitely be an adjustment for the next couple years. Trying to cram in Christmas festivities while also cramming for finals doesn't really work out too well. Ho-Ho-Homework, but I digress.

Still, I had a magical winter break. And I got to wear a coat more than once! Firs time for everything.

WINTER BREAK I LOVE YOU

Snow Day in Snoqualmie

I haven't been back to the PNW in a good 3 or 4 years, save a quick wedding a few summers ago.  When I moved away five years ago, I thought I'd never miss the mountains or snow or having to wear a coat at all times for nine months out of the year. Turns out that I don't miss the coat part but I had really, really missed the snow. I don't think I fully realized how much I'd missed it till I took one step into the fresh power and sunk about three feet. Man, snow is fun! Even when you're wearing a mini skirt....because I didn't want anyone passing by to forget that I was from Florida.

So anyway! Snow! Snoqualmie! SO fun.

I'm not saying Florida isn't great...but I'm also not saying that I want to stay there forever. Because winter is basically an excuse to drink as many cups of hot cocoa a day as you and I'm all about that life and gosh, I've missed it!

December First, Done RIGHT!

I figured something was up!!!

I'm a naturally suspicious person, and my acute senses are always heightened around my birthday. I happened upon a few emails of my mothers that were oddly vague. Then when the plans were made with Sarah, I invited another friend to come a long and she was suspiciously busy. Then when mom went to drop me off at Sarah's I noticed an extra pair of socks....and right as we were leaving we got a snap from our friends and what do you know! They were going somewhere too...!

As I walked to the skate rink Sarah and her sister kind of fell behind me and suddenly it was just me walking in to find nearly everyone I love in one room, with cheesy grins on their faces.

Isn't that all a girl can ask for!?

It wasn't exactly a party more like a -let's-go-skating-on-Kryn's-birthday-and-how-about-we-surprise-her sorta thing. Which honestly, that's what I'd have wanted if I was planning it myself! Official parties give me the creeps! They didn't sing, they didn't dance, we just skated to christmas music and I exercised birthday rights by butting into every possible conversation.

(Also, They can't wait for my next party!)

(Also, can i just say how FUN it is Ice Skating to Christmas Music?!?!?! Thanks.)

This girl is the one to thank for playing it cool and keeping my suspicions at bay! She's also the one to thank for the majority of my happiness this past year - SARAH YOU'RE A GEM.

Sometimes do things you don't really love (Volleyball) and you meat people you REALLY love (Kayla). This girl is unlike any other. When I say she is perfect...I really mean it!

And best of all, I didn't have lipstick on my teeth! It's the little things in life that are the best!

Thank you to everyone who came, to everyone who helped and made December 1st a wonderful day. Cheers to the season!

Patience, friends!

Christmas music go date is set! Hold the carols, the high pitched children and the sugar cookies until November 25th, please and thank you!

Having a December birthday has taught me to respect the seasons, and also exhibit self control when it comes to things of a holiday nature. I have a natural instinct to avert my eyes from anything Christmasy (think pure thoughts, kids!) I mean, Thanksgiving would be really thankful if you didn't get too wrapped up in your Christmas lights before the big Turkey day!

My name is Thanksgiving, and I approve this message.

When is your Christmas festivities go day? September 1st? I need to find others who defend the pure innocence of Thanksgiving!

ON THE 11TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS....

A few days ago Mom and I were listening to the radio and the announcers said something about last minute shopping and We were just like "Heck, we have not even STARTED Christmas shopping!"

But really, doing anything Christmasy before December 10th would really be a sin in our house. Except of course, dreaming about what you'll get for Christmas, as that is acceptable ALLLLL year. As of yesterday, we have a tree! 11 days before Christmas, that's how its done.

▲▲ This is the point where I apologize for the ugliness of this photo, but I love it so! On my birthday Emily came over and we had a fondant Santa competition which quickly turned into a snowman and gingerbread house competition. Pictured is Emily's penguin snowman/hybrid (it's a new breed, still in the development stages. Will let you know when they're available in the freezer section.)  Not pictured, my snowman with a toothpick in his eye.

▲▲ Puppies like Christmas trees! Yay! I didn't even pose them for these, which I guess by now they just nap in photogenic places. Train them young, I say!

▲▲ Uber Cliche lights photos. But isn't that what Christmas is for? That and eating cookies.

For those of you interested (Hi Mom! Hi Grandma!) I was quite handy and created a Christmas  tag in which you can view more poorly edited Christmas photos. Enjoy friends!

“Christmas doesn't come from a store, maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more....”

Of Heaven and New York and how they are related.

I have been putting off blogging, and writing more specifically for a month. A MONTH! Time is such a weird thing really, but anyway. I love blogging, I love this blog, but sometimes I don't want to blog. And if that makes sense to you then I would worry for your life. Because it makes sense to me and well....!

But now, I am here! To tell you about the magic of being 16. I don't know what happened, but something clicked in me. I'm not in limbo anymore I guess, that awkward stage of knowing you are a kid but really wanting to be older. 16 feels like "YES! I can do this!" As a result, I am much more aggressive in craft stores. And I smack my gum a little louder,  Just to let you know that I'm 16 now.

And when you turn 16, you do logical things. Like go to New York City, of course! New York is nice. But New York at Christmas? That is heaven. And if I was in heaven then that probably means I have been upgraded to Angel status, right?

For further proof, see my halo...

Okay maybe not. It was a nice thought!

I feel as though these photos could be easily twisted into something far more poetic with a few heartfelt quotes and maybe a sad acoustic song. Thank goodness I am not the type for that!

More coming your way....

We photobomb

I'm not sure what I was taking pictures of, but whatever it was, Soph thought she was WAY more important. She photobombs all the time...

Speaking of photobombing, while we were ice skating, I did some myself. Sorry proud parents, yes, Jill and Joe are amazing at ice skating, but who's that dork doing pirouettes in the background? Just think of all the coffee table photo albums I'll be gracing. I'm famous!

I WAS GOING TO POST BUT LIFE GOT IN THE WAY

I've been meaning to post for, I don't know...FOREVER? We'll just skip all the "I'M SO SORRY!" gab (which I must have a thing for) and move onto the fact that Christmas is WAY to close and I'm terrified. In a good, bad and happy way.

Some things I've been up to of late....

-Curling my hair like crazy. I may be in love with our curling iron. It certainly was not love at first sight, but we got through it and now we're madly in love. Some people fall in love with boys....and some with their curling irons.

-pouring apple juice up my nose. (um....)

- having and impromptu Christmas concert with this girl for her neighbors, and getting applause. (you have no idea how awkward we sound when we sing.)

- Telling mom, "I'm having an obsession with antlers!!"

- Listening to music....a lot. (someone help me.)

-our family came to town and I was mute. Literally. It was almost like last year.

- Ice skating at my dads work. It's certainly not the way to get introduced to your dads co-workers. "Hey, nice to meet you. Excuse my while I fall flat on my face."

-hearing someone say something really funny and spending the next 10 minuets planning how I can use it in upcoming conversations.

I don't think I'll be making December goals, because I keep planning ones for 2013. And so now you must tell me, what have you done in my absence? Anything fun?

Apparently, I felt like chattering with you all. Hey, good thing we are friends!

XOXO,
Chatterbox forever.

PS: Thank you all for your sweet birthday wishes!! You all are the bomb.com. And I mean it.

15 AND SUCH

I turned 15 last week. I know, 15, I'm still practically a baby! Sheesh! I thought I was grown up, apparently not.

I refrained from writing about it (After all, we celebrate birthday week! It's okay, you're allowed to be jealous.) because I was thinking maybe I would be hit with a deep, wise thought about being 15 and such.

Nope.

Unfortunately, finally 15, I come to you announcing I am no wiser, no smarter than I was 4 days ago. I can't think of anything deep to say about my birthday other than we went to the Nutcracker and I'm scared of men ballerinas.

okay, that's about as deep as I get. Go enjoy your theology, I'll be painting my nails if you need me.

Camping Forever

I don't know about you, but camping messes with me.  It seems like you leave and you feel like you've been gone forever and when you get back, you realize its been like what? One day?

My body clock has gone haywire...AGAIN.

I'm just so happy to be home and that it's chilly and I get to do my things and get stuff done and that I have a real live piano now.  And wear scarfs. Because people, it's 70 here so we're breaking out our winter wear like its -20 and snowing. It's just what we do.

(anyone with me on the whole camping deal?)

Washi Tape Experiment.

To be honest, I'm not totally clear on washi tape. I think its just tape. Washi style. I messed around a bit, a lot, and gave it a try. Here's the result
We are just plain cool.
Yay or nay? Washi or not? I like it for some things, but I'm not sure washi would be great on everything. For now, it looks cute on this picture.  I think I should get my hands on some real washi tape.

Enjoy your day! I'm off to go camping and intend to have a super great time. What are you doing this weekend?

Blank

I'm not totally sold. It just kind of seems boring. But the blank paper it is. I have not got much to say about - but its blank and so is my blogging idea's. I don't have a series planed or anything, just whatever-whenever blogging this month.

Don't forget to check out this months celebrations! I am going to be MUCH better on celebrating. Lets face it: Celebrating is fun!

PS: I had my most views ever during February - thank you all! You are the bomb dot com and I mean it.
Pretty Spring Flowers.

Make Up your own holiday update

It's funny, when I actually have the chance to make up a holiday - I can't think of one. Thankfully, I still have over 26 days to think and plan awesome stuff. Here's what's in the running:

  • Iron Chef Day
  • Give your dog (or pet) a manicure day
  • Minecraft day
  • Tomboy day
Now, the only reason I'm putting the last 2 up is because people suggested them. I'm not ever gonna be revved up for tomboy day, even if it were a real holiday!

Hope you all are doing lovely things today. I'm just sitting in a dark hospital room minding my own business.yeah right....Okay, this post needs something a little fun to brighten it up. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that, but I am sitting in a totally dark room.
I do love this. And I do notice its blurry.

Thumb people painting

I'm calling this the thumb people paiting. But promise me this : You wont laugh at my awkward looking thumb people? If you promise then keep reading.

Now, I do NOT claim to be an artist. While I would love to be one, there is not one artistic gene in my body. Its just not my thing. I sort of have to be content with looking at other peoples art and enjoying it. When I saw this painting in some peoples house, I thought for sure this was something I could do. It didn't require too much. I can draw weird little faces okay (or so I thought.) I had a canvas so I was set.
All in all, its actually quite cute. I am hoping everyone else I draw turns out much better. Here's how you do this: you need a canvas, paint and a thin sharpie. Simply paint your thumbs (and a few other fingers) and make prints all over. Try to fill as much up as possible. I am noticing now that some one my people are sitting on on soon to be people. Then when its dry, start drawing funny little people.
I think I used a 1/2 inch canvas.
I went with a bunch of bright colors, but I think this would be really sweet with more monochromatic colors. Like violet. Or pink. or aqua!

Let me know if you make this!

Make Up your own holiday!

I am getting back on board with the celebrations like I told you I would. I was looking up the March Celebrations and here is the coolest: March 26ths is make up your own holiday! I am beginning to brainstorm and will let your know my idea's soon. (How about Justin Beiber appreciation day?)

Just kidding.

In the mean time, let me know if you have any super amazing idea's. I'd love to hear from you.

I like fonts. A whole lot.

Cupcake Love

Happy Valentines Day Everybody! I hope you all are having a great day and are feeling loved. Dad usually brings Mom and I flowers, but he's out of town this year. My Valentines present came home with Dad on Saturday,
Raspberry and Salty Carmel cupcakes! I've been savoring them over the weekend and very impressed with my self for leaving some for Valentines day. Nothing is like a Sprinkles cupcake. Have I mentioned that before? This is my last 14 things I love post. I've rather enjoyed it. What are some things you love?

Happy Hearts Day! XOXO
