TWENTY IN TEXAS // weekend sweeter than sugar

If the calendar year is like a cake, then December is the frosting on top. And the only thing sweeter than a copious amounts of sugary frosting is friends who throw you a surprise party and give you copious amounts of said frosting! December 1st is always my favorite day of the year because it always puts everything back into perspective for me and reminds me how blessed these years of my life have been. Life isn't always easy but there are so many people in my life that make each day so much sweeter. Turning 20 in Texas reminded me of just that.

My dear sweet human Mallory threw me a surprise party. And by surprise I mean, she accidentally told me about it the day before and then made me walk in twice because she forgot to film it but either way, what a win. What did surprise me (actually) was how freaking thoughtful every detail was. Apples because I eat like 16189 a day, frosting because theres nothing gluten free in the bakery so that's all I can eat, pink everything because duh and LANY was playing in the background because nothing describes my life more than those lyrics.

Every detail was so thoughtful and wow. I could cry just thinking about it!

"Because Diet Coke with Lime is your favorite!"
On my actual birthday I wore my favorite little plaid pants and even though I had classes all day, it was so fun. After class we had a little photoshoot then hit the road because what place is there to spend your 20th birthday other than Lubbock, Texas?

Our time at Tech began with some technical difficulties for me, but the next day I went to Sugar Browns for a couple hours to do homework and it was definitely a good decision. Never in my life did I think I'd spend the day after my 20th birthday in a random coffee shop in a random town in Texas, but I love how life works. You know what else I loved? The acai bowl I inhaled SO quickly that I forgot to take a photo.

(Mallory, Mallory, Me and Sarah. Apparently homeschool girls don't know to wear black.)
The actual real reason we went to Lubbock was to attend a formal for a fraternity that we are definitely not apart of (because uh, we're girls?) at a school of which we most certainly do not attend (because uh, we go to ACU?) either.

Our dates were super fun and absolutely precious.  And considering that we met them 5 minutes before walking into the formal, I think the entire night went very well and definitely wasn't as awkward as we anticipated.

(Unfortunately our dancing was just as awkward as we expected.)
The next morning we went to church, ate the most amazing taco's our life and frolicked around downtown Lubbock which is actually pretty dang cute. Plus I found a pink house! What more could I want in life/for my birthday weekend celebration?

A week before I turned 20, I was terrified. Today, I'm thankful because through another year of life I have learned that The Lord can provide in ways we never expected. He has given me amazing friends, a wonderful time in Texas and He went above and beyond and blessed me with everything from the acai to the pink house on Broadway.

HAPPY DECEMBER / DEFINING DECADE!

EIGHT-FREAKING-TEEN

Ironically enough, my 18th birthday surprise party will go down without a doubt as the most undocumented event in history.

Have you ever had one of those days where you just totally and completely overthink one little tiny thing a boy said?

Well that was me on the day of my surprise party this year. I probably would have caught on had I not been caught up in my own self woe. My friend invited me over ("girl, you just need to talk it out....and also not be at home so your family can get ready for your surprise party!") (she left out the last part) and naturally, I didn't want to disappoint!

I came and talked and vented and we laughed at how silly I was being and went and ate salad. And then on the way home, her dad wanted to stop at the beach! Which was weird but at that point everything was weird so it didn't raise my off fleek brows. Lo and behold, SEVENTY of my closest friends came out to surprise me, shower me with hugs and make me feel infinitely special. If that doesn't make a girl's heart happy, I don't know what could!

In closing, I would like to state that my phone did not lose a percentage of battery the entire party. Which might prove how much fun I was having (and also why there are no photos.) And in case you were curious, the boy problems got resolved in the best way possible. Don't you just love it when you freak out over absolutely nothing? Being a girl is so great.

(i actually really mean that.)

December First, Done RIGHT!

I figured something was up!!!

I'm a naturally suspicious person, and my acute senses are always heightened around my birthday. I happened upon a few emails of my mothers that were oddly vague. Then when the plans were made with Sarah, I invited another friend to come a long and she was suspiciously busy. Then when mom went to drop me off at Sarah's I noticed an extra pair of socks....and right as we were leaving we got a snap from our friends and what do you know! They were going somewhere too...!

As I walked to the skate rink Sarah and her sister kind of fell behind me and suddenly it was just me walking in to find nearly everyone I love in one room, with cheesy grins on their faces.

Isn't that all a girl can ask for!?

It wasn't exactly a party more like a -let's-go-skating-on-Kryn's-birthday-and-how-about-we-surprise-her sorta thing. Which honestly, that's what I'd have wanted if I was planning it myself! Official parties give me the creeps! They didn't sing, they didn't dance, we just skated to christmas music and I exercised birthday rights by butting into every possible conversation.

(Also, They can't wait for my next party!)

(Also, can i just say how FUN it is Ice Skating to Christmas Music?!?!?! Thanks.)

This girl is the one to thank for playing it cool and keeping my suspicions at bay! She's also the one to thank for the majority of my happiness this past year - SARAH YOU'RE A GEM.

Sometimes do things you don't really love (Volleyball) and you meat people you REALLY love (Kayla). This girl is unlike any other. When I say she is perfect...I really mean it!

And best of all, I didn't have lipstick on my teeth! It's the little things in life that are the best!

Thank you to everyone who came, to everyone who helped and made December 1st a wonderful day. Cheers to the season!

HAPPY KRYN DAY

A few weeks ago I was on Instagram, attempting to wish an online friend happy birthday. But because my independent streak refuses to to be tamed and actually SLOW DOWN and type at a human speed, my skill of typos is a force to be reckoned with. So, as luck would have it....My horrendous spelling of "Happy birthday" turned acidentally (and hilariously) into "Happy Kryn day!"

And then, Kryn Day was born!

HAPPY KRYN DAY!
I hope you celebrated.

Here's to my 17th year on this lovely earth.

Of Heaven and New York and how they are related.

I have been putting off blogging, and writing more specifically for a month. A MONTH! Time is such a weird thing really, but anyway. I love blogging, I love this blog, but sometimes I don't want to blog. And if that makes sense to you then I would worry for your life. Because it makes sense to me and well....!

But now, I am here! To tell you about the magic of being 16. I don't know what happened, but something clicked in me. I'm not in limbo anymore I guess, that awkward stage of knowing you are a kid but really wanting to be older. 16 feels like "YES! I can do this!" As a result, I am much more aggressive in craft stores. And I smack my gum a little louder,  Just to let you know that I'm 16 now.

And when you turn 16, you do logical things. Like go to New York City, of course! New York is nice. But New York at Christmas? That is heaven. And if I was in heaven then that probably means I have been upgraded to Angel status, right?

For further proof, see my halo...

Okay maybe not. It was a nice thought!

I feel as though these photos could be easily twisted into something far more poetic with a few heartfelt quotes and maybe a sad acoustic song. Thank goodness I am not the type for that!

More coming your way....

Birthdays! And things relating to them!

With my birthday coming up, which is basically an excuse to be as self centered as possible, I've been planning a few things (more like, photos I want people to take of me, in which I will hopefully look way cuter than I actually am.) After all, 16 only comes once! (Thank goodness, I've heard it's rough sometimes.)

So anyway, with birthdays on the brain, here are some photos of my frem on her birthday! I don't know who the photographer was, but as you can tell, she was pretty great.....

15 AND SUCH

I turned 15 last week. I know, 15, I'm still practically a baby! Sheesh! I thought I was grown up, apparently not.

I refrained from writing about it (After all, we celebrate birthday week! It's okay, you're allowed to be jealous.) because I was thinking maybe I would be hit with a deep, wise thought about being 15 and such.

Nope.

Unfortunately, finally 15, I come to you announcing I am no wiser, no smarter than I was 4 days ago. I can't think of anything deep to say about my birthday other than we went to the Nutcracker and I'm scared of men ballerinas.

okay, that's about as deep as I get. Go enjoy your theology, I'll be painting my nails if you need me.

The Party

Last night was my birthday party. I had so much fun! I took 564 pictures. I got Richard Simmons. I ate soggy cookies with smiley faces. I wore my mustard tights. Yes! Good times.Tricia's famous hip pose.

This is what will happen if you copy a video.

I loved Charleen's name tag.
Rachel, Emmalynne, Emily and I were the costume winners. (I attribute it all to the mustard tights.)

Everyone was a little nervous about these.

Richard Simmons! Thank you Sarah for doing it!

My punk was being so cute during the party. (So was Emily.)
Everyone loved the soggy cookies.

Mom told my Tissue Issue story. And she gave out tissues! Hope was hilarious with them.

Hilarious moment.
Sarah, your outfit rocked. You should have won!

Susie and Faith.
