SPRING IS A HARD THING

I took a BuzzFeed quiz the other day. Something like "pick your favorite Cheetos flavor and we'll tell you a trait about yourself." I'm hoping that at one point in my life I'll totally NOT be intrigued by those dumb quizzes but that day hasn't come yet. I'm a child of the chain email quiz generation so I imagine that BuzzFeed quizzes are just a glorified version of those....but with less annoying fonts.

Anyway, so besides determining the fact that my favorite Cheetos flavor is indeed the original, BuzzFeed also determined that my defining trait is Bravery.

Which I thought was pretty funny. Because, how could classic Cheetos ever equal bravery? But the more I thought about, the more I realized that BuzzFeed was actually right.

And boy let me tell you, I had major Cheeto cravings after that.

A year ago, I broke up with my boyfriend because...I had too. I also can't go into detail because no one cares but me and my dog and also, I can hardly type a sentence properly let a lone a six month relationship saga. But moral of the story, it wasn't even something I wanted to do and it certainly wasn't the easy choice. I'll go even as far to say that breaking up with someone you really like, really care about and really don't want to hurt has to be one of the hardest things in (our easy 21st century first problems world) life.

We talked and even hung out a couple times after. Every other area of my life was falling apart and I just needed a friend, I couldn't handle the emotional responsibility of having a boyfriend. I told him that, he said he understood, that he didn't care. That he'd still be there for me.

Classic.

One week we're sitting on the pier at midnight talking about life and faith and jesus and grace and the next he's blocked me and unfollowed me and eradicated any memory that I had ever existed.

Fun!

That was the very same day my dad left for a two week business trip to Japan.
The problem is, he never came back.

I've seen him a couple times since, but it's never been the same. My dad who made eggs and toast every Saturday morning since I can remember, the dad who helped me plant my garden each year and the one who I rode bikes around the island with, that dad never came back.

Then after a terrible misrepresentation that involved a poetry book and unaccepted apology, my best friend at the time texted me, "We've been best friends for years, but our friendship can not be restored.
She never spoke to me again.

And so for the third time that month, I had to say goodbye to one of the most important people in my life.

I think it's almost worse to lose someone and, at the same time, know they're still out there. They're still going to the same coffee shop. They still watch the same T.V shows. Their life is still exactly the same except for the fact that, they've decided, you can't be apart of it anymore.

That stings.

I've refrained from writing publicly about any of this for the past year and a half. I didn't want to name names, to blame anyone or sound like an emotional teenage girl who just vents all her feelings to the Internet (because there's enough of those already.) I wanted to wait till I could see God's purpose for the pain and how He would heal this heartache.

It's taken a lot of grace to get me to this place.

If there's one thing I've learned (beyond from the fact that I'm FAR from perfect) it's that the Lord has taught me to be brave. I know that had I gone through this on my own, I can guarantee you I would not have made it. There were so many days that I cried on the way to class, cried looking at happy families, cried when I was cleaning my mom's bathroom and found my parents wedding rings. So many moments when I screamed at Jesus, "I can't do this!"

And He was like, "LOL I KNOW. BUT YOU'RE DOING IT ANYWAY."

And through His love and grace, I did. I worked nine hour shifts with said ex-friend. I had a two hour conversation with my dad, the most I'd spoken to him in over a year. I was able to repair a friendship that had been broken through said ended-relationship. I learned that just when I was sure I was at the end of things, God was going to push me even further.

So Buzzfeed was right about two things: I love Cheeto's and I am brave. And while I'm fully responsible for the cheeto obsession, Jesus is 100% responsible for the bravery. He's the only reason I can face the pain over and over again. He is the one who picks me up and puts me back on the path, no matter how hard I try to get off of it.

I've often wondered what the purpose of this pain will be. Will I write a bestselling Christian advice book and be an inspiration to millions? Probably not. Will I find a group of Jesus seeking girls that are so great I forget about all the other broken friendships? Maybe not. Will I marry the christian football player I've been stalking on instagram, somehow, as a result of all this? Highly unlikely.

I've come to accept the fact that maybe the purpose of this pain is more simple than I ever imagined: to be brave.

To be brave enough to trust Him fully with every aspect of my life, every friendship and relationship.
To be brave enough to admit that I can't do it....BUT HE CAN.

So, in short, go ahead and take that BuzzFeed quiz. You never know what unique characteristic you will uncover. And then you can buy yourself a pack of cheetos and think of me!

(Actually, just share them with me, that's a way better idea.)

Pink, I love you loudly.

It's no secret: I love pink and I love it loudly.  There are 3 hot pink houses on my street. The first purse I bought was pink. Flamingos have always been my spirit animal.  And even at 19 years old, to me there is truly nothing more beautiful than a vivid shade of pink- whether it be coral or neon or flamingo or rose or blush. (if you need more profe, here's an ancient blog post.)

You can imagine my excitement when Pink started to be trendy again. Coral velvet couches, dusty pink sneakers, pink instagram filters, blush bridesmaid dresses, baby pink moody tumblr posts - everything is pink. And in honor of that, and also in honor of the fact that it's Thursday, I thought you deserved to see all the good pink things that are floating around the Internet today.

You can thank me later.

A WEEK OF OUTFITS: HALEY BOYD //
Not only does this outfit scream Nancy and Steve but it's also pink perfection. Actually, everything Haley wears is perfect, I'm obsessed and I'm not even going to bother saying low key obsessed because yeah.

WHY MILLENNIAL PINK REFUSES TO GO AWAY //
This is an article all about pink and as you can see, it's pretty perfect! It's also surprisingly detailed, thank goodness there are other people who appreciate pink enough to write an article about it (which i would do!) and also spell check said article (something I wouldn't do.)

CASA LUIS BARRAGAN //
I don't really know much about this other than it's in Mexico and I'm in Florida and it's pink and I love pink. Looks pretty dreamy on instagram and idk, I'd be down for going with anyone this summer (well, anyone who can take good pictures of me in front of it. Gotta keep up the aesthetic ;))

SIDEKICK BAG //
We all know Ban.Do is the way to my heart. And this cutie bag with pom-poms is no exception! I mean, technically I need a backpack for college but honestly, I'd rather have this sidekick bag instead. I could fit like what, a pencil in there? Good enough for me.

Happy Pink to you and yours. And don't forget: whatever it is that you love, make sure you love it loudly.

SWEET SKILLET COOKIE OF MY SOUL

I love to bake but boy do I love not following recipes so much more. I generally only cook things that don't involve recipes. Which works nicely for a lot of things but baked goods, let alone gluten free baked goods, don't always blend well with such an abstract approach.

I knew this recipe was going to be a keeper when I made it and realize HOW EASY it is. I've made it several times from memory now and each time I pop it in the oven, my recipe hating heart rejoices! No longer am I chained to a recipe or a website or a precious cookbook. This is living, friends!

Not only is it gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free and GOOD, but it's also already in my mental recipe book and I'm pretty excited about that. In case you're curious to see the other desserts I've Made/been obsessed with (one in the same), here's the dessert tag.
(ALSO THE OG MUFFIN RECIPE. Oh my heart, 2012 was good to me)

// (sweet) SKILLET COOKIE (of my soul) //

i n g r e d i e n t s :
1 cup almond flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/3 nut butter (almond, cashew, sunflower, coconut, peanut, whatevs!)
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
1 egg
3 tbsp maple syrup
1/4 tsp vanilla extract

chocolate chips, amount is up to your sweet tooth

STEP ONE:
mix everything.

STEP TWO:
Bake at 325 (I use an 8x8 well greased pan)
for about 19-25 minutes.
(it's technically supposed to be made in a cast iron skillet
but we city folk have to improvise.)

STEP THREE:
(the most difficult step)
let it cool before eating.
(i know, ugh)

e x t r a  n o t e s :
*you can swap out the flour for any gluten free flour
Tapioca flour, coconut flour, almond flour, whatever.*

*make it vegan by substituting the egg for a chia egg*

*use dairy free chocolate and you've got yourself a delish dairy free dessert*

*chopped up fancy chocolate works well too!*

*I normally add extra flour. I like my cookies to
match my makeup, nice and cakey.*

*bake time varies, keep an eye on it.*

*in case you were worried or curious, it is totally acceptable to eat a
cookie for breakfast, lunch and dinner.*

Easter of another kind....

No bunnies, no hard boiled eggs, no floral dresses here!
Just me and my puppy and a blog post.

What is this, like a #fridayintroductions on steroids or something? I found this deep in the depths of my blog archives and instead of sending it off to wherever R.I.P drafts go, I decided to resurrect it and waste a lot of time filling it out.

The only reason I decided to follow through and post this was a.) I'm cleaning out my drafts and b.) I know I'll cry laughing (at myself) reading this in twenty years. Will blogger even exist in 20 years? Will I even exist in 20 years? Who knows. It all seems a little extra for 2017 but then again, what isn't these days.

For your sake, this post has been condensed. Click below to keep reading...but may I suggest making sure you have ample amounts of time because holy guacamole, it's long.

Long live resurrected drafts!
It's Easter all over again.

A bride and her broken fender

I got married and wrecked my car, all in one day!

When my friend Sydney reached out to me about modeling for her in a styled bridal shoot I was SO EXCITED. Like call my mom post on Facebook praise Jesus excited. Sadly when the day came, a few unfortunate events (aka me getting gas and running into a stationary object?!?!) caused a broken headlight, dented fender and mortally wounded pride.

Thankfully my mom came to the rescue and though it was a dramatic day through and through, it all worked out in the end. Three months later, my car is still severely dented with no plastic surgery in it's future. My pride is tested every time I drive it....think God is trying to teach me something?

Too bad I'm a slow learner lol.

So in short, I got married and my parents didn't have to pay for my wedding! Just the broken headlight and fender ;)

TAKE MY HAND, HOLD ON FOREVER.

Well, take each others hands, not mine.
I'm just the photographer.

You probably remember Rebecca and Brandon because how could you forget a couple this cute? I'm happy to report that this time around my hands did not shake like a level 5 earthquake so that was very nice. I picked a location I wasn't totally sure of but it turned out to be MAGIC and the light was also magic, which happens to be a very desirable combination.

After taking their photos twice, I've decided to designate myself as their official family photographer. I also didn't ask their opinion on this, but hopefully that won't be an issue. They'll get used to it after a couple years.... when I show up for every holiday and special event.

Rebecca, Brandon...and Karissa? Sounds good.

SEA THE WORLD

The only reason I'm allowing myself to write this post in March about something that happened in DECEMBER is because it's about my job...which, as of this week, I've had for a year. In my mind, that justifies it somewhat.

But let's be real, it actually doesn't.

Working at Chick-Fil-A isn't easy or relaxing but it is pretty wonderful. And in December our boss took us all to Sea World for free, which made up for all the months we had to pay for break food. I guess another reason I'm documenting this here is because this was actually the first time I EVER went on a roller coaster. It only took me 19 years to make it on one without crying hysterically.

The interesting thing about working at Chick-Fil-A, affectionately called "Christian Chicken" or "Chicken Youth Group", is that 80% of the employees are not Christians. I'm actually in the minority there. It's never been an issue, but it's also kind of something we don't talk about at work. That all changed as we buckled in to go up on the first roller coaster. I told the girls next to me "Just so you know, I'm a Christian so I'm probably going to be praying out loud the whole way down." They laughed.

Sure enough, first thing out of my mouth after the big drop?

It wasn't a blood curdling scream.

just a "JESUS SAVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!"

Thankfully Jesus pulled through and I made it through 3 rides and what do you know, it was fun! Should have paid for the photo though because my praying face was PRICELESS. Such a fun day though. You think that we'd be sick of one another after serving chicken together 24/7 but actually, I wouldn't want to go with anyone else.

Chicken forever.
XOXO,
Kryn.
