Sunshine in Seattle!

Of course! On the day I break out my brand new rain boots, it didn't rain. Naturally though, I still wore the boots because, logic.

Seattle is notorious for rain and drizzle and general gloom but finally one day the sun decided to show its face again. Apparently, it's a rare deal. As I was crossing the street that was soaked with golden hues, the man who I had been unintentionally following for at least 5 blocks turned and jokingly commented that he forgot Seattle even had a sun! "Well, I for one am used to the sun and I'm glad it's out!" I emphatically declared.

Unfortunately I hadn't noticed that the he had put his earbuds back in.

So in case anyone on the corner of 6th and Aloha was curious, I was happy the sun was out. Public service announcement, over and out!

(Location: Kerry Park and random streets in Queen Anne)

3 THINGS ABOUT SAN FRAN

Alrigthy peeps! (speaking of peeps, time to rifle through the clearance bins at Publix for our favorite marshmallow chicks! Two second tangent, over and out.) I'm writing this post mostly as future reference for myself (since San Francisco hasn't seen the last of me, that's for sure!) But if any of you find yourself in the Bay area anytime soon (or in 20 years, I'm not picky.) maybe you could take note of my sage advice and heed my wisdom. Or read this post at least.
ONE: Whatever you do, WALK DOWN FILLMORE! Like, I can't stress that enough. Not only will you be overwhelmed with flower shops and cupcake stores (need I say more?), but it's got the cutest houses and the best views of the bay. Don't forget this one peeps!
TWO: A few of my favorite fashion bloggers live in SF, and their hair is always perfect. Naturally I assumed that SF had good hair vibes and that I too, would have nice hair on my trip. NOT THE CASE. SF is windy like you wouldn't believe! As my friend Sarah said after I sent her this, "I think it's ponytail day?" Ponytails, braids, buns, or baldness. Whatever you do, don't leave your hair down or you will regret it for the rest of eternity.
THREE: The food at the ferry building is really good. Like, really, really good! In my humble opinion, anyway. I had a grilled cheese with some kind of wildly exotic cheese, and it's safe to say since then, every grilled cheese has left a lot to be desired. So anyway, Ferry Building it is!
Really you guys, San Fran was probably one of the coolest cities. And I've been to a stinking lot of places, but SF was just the greatest. A hippie haven, nonetheless. Obviously I support that.
And on that note, Peace to you!

Remember (the) Alamo (Square Park!)

If you want flowers, go to Alamo Square Park! If you need to see some amazing houses, go to Alamo Square Park! If you are itching for a great city view....

I think you get the idea!

Needless to say, this was my favorite part of San Francisco. It's like this magical little oasis in the middle of the city, full of cool people (lots of yoga do-ers and dog walkers) and basically the prettiest houses I have ever seen. Also, IT'S NOT WINDY THERE. And trust me, once you get to SF, you will appreciate that fact.

Peace from San FranDisco!

I guess it's a tradition to find some sort of pun or something for places we travel to (The Juan You Love, anyone?) Anyway, puns aside let's talk about San Francisco!

My love affair with San Francisco began on my bed, of all places, while I was no doubt wearing my cool print pajama pants (which have long since been sent to Goodwill). I was busy plowing through easy reading books for the library summer reading program (gosh, I miss those!) and the Julie books were in my stack. And I don't know if it was the flare jeans or the fortune cookies, but those silly books have had me wanting to travel to San Fran (and the Hippie era, thank you very much!) since good ol' 2009.

And so, my irrational love of San Francisco and the hippies who inhabit it was born! Hippies have come up serveral times here on the blog (Hippie Vans! Hippie party! Hippie Haven! oh my!)
So obviously you can see why setting foot on San Francisco soil was such, a big, deal.

▲▲ Yay for cliché! Nothing like a touristy photo to set the mood for a post of touristy greatness! Contrary to the faux smile I had going on, I was kind of miserable at that point so I don't think I really appreciated the bridge as much as I should have (My excuses are that I was hungry, freezing and my feet were bleeding. Yes?)

▲▲ At the Full House house, on the stoop, no less! Let's all take a moment to honor the scrunchies and the crimped hair that made that show infinitely better. Oh and the mullets! Those need a moment (or two!)

▲▲ Some snaps of the city! Cities begin to look the same after a while, but thanks to the hills SF had different views. So my photos are slightly different than every other US city post you've suffered through, hooray for change!

So, dreams do come true! And while I didn't get to see Julie and Ivy running around with their fortune cookies and flare jeans (shouting hippie catch phrases, of course) I did get to see SF and that's pretty much all a girl could ask for.

ps: feel free to browse the hippie hashtag. (thank you, I think I will!)

pps: sarah, you still should have won the costume contest! #hippiesarenotfair

A little bit of DC Lovin'

Good morning friends! I've been rushing around all morning, packing and what not. Of course, the term packing is used very loosely, it mainly involves me trying on a bunch of outfits, hating all of them and then ending with every clothing article I own in piles on the floor. Clearly, I have this process down to a science!

Anyway, we went to DC just after Christmas! Dad has a knack of informing us we are traveling with VERYYY late notice. I seriously think we had two days warning on this trip, which was pretty good!

▲▲ Botanical Gardens! We felt right at home in the humidity! Although, what is up with these pics? Geeze kryn, get your act together.

▲▲ I would probably air on the artist side of things, but when I go an museum I always feel like I'm betraying my kind. I really hate art, apparently! I seriously think there was one piece in the whole museum that I actually thought was beautiful. The rest? To many naked ladies and fat babies for my taste.

▲▲ Mount Vernon was so pretty, I wanted to cry. Old George (we are on a first name basis now, thanks to the great level of our affection for him) was a good, good man. Plus There's a little something about colonial charm that is just heavenly.

▲▲ Ah, yes, I promise I do own more than one outfit! But I am getting sick of seeing my one and only coat in SOOO many photos. But Alas, the downside to living in the sweat state.

Thanks peeps! And DC too, because you are real cute.

WHAT A KRYN WOULD WEAR

So, it has dawned on me that I like traveling. So I will write about it. Pointing out the obvious is my specialty!

Traveling is all sorts of fun, but dressing on trips (and doing hair, that's the worst!) is a pain. And that is coming from an experienced traveler. Please accept these tips as a sign of my love for clothes, new places and general nonsense.

TRY TO LOOK NICE, DUH.
I used to always wear shorts and an aero shirt and converse while traveling. And on a scale of one to homeless, it was not pretty. Now, I'm not saying I've been elevated to some fashion goddess, but I figured that since I was gonna look at these photos for THE REST OF MY LIFE, I might as well brush my hair and wear a shirt without stains. Aren't you proud of me!?

ALWAYS BRING A SWEATER!
This is so mandatory. Airplanes are like hormonal women, hot one minute and freezing the next. Thus, a sweater! It also acts as a blanket and a pillow and if need be, a tissue. Oh and also, wash it when you get home.

HAVE A LITTLE FUN
The fact is, you are in a new city or a new country AND YOU WILL NEVER SEE THESE PEOPLE AGAIN. Take great delight in that fact and bask in it's greatness; you can wear mismatching prints and colors and no one will care, or even notice. Thank goodness we have cities so we can be dorks once in a while. It's healthy for the soul.

My outfit, in case any of you are passionately curious
top: forever 21
jeans: old navy (first time wearing jeans in almost 8 months, mind you!)
shoes: jcp
necklace

And with that, I'm off! Can you guess where too?

Behold, Boston!

Photo dump!  Beware friends, you might be here a while!

So Boston....? Boston! I have to say, I did really like it. (of course, someone tell me a city I don't like!) New York City was so much fun, a big adventure. But Boston felt really comfortable, it felt normal. Like a big city but not too big, and who am I kidding, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Just go to Boston, and you'll figure the rest out for yourself!

And out with the triangles!

▲▲ I believe they call this a "right place, right time" photo ???? I seem to have a thing for catching glorious sunsets while on trips. It's a gift! (Boston Skyline taken on Nahant, doesn't that name just sound so Nantuckety?!?)

▲▲ It's me and a boat! And Emily and not pictured are the LOUDEST cannons my poor ears have ever been shocked by. Also, we like boats only because our art teacher is a pirate, no joke.

▲▲ For whatever reason, there were pianos all over Boston. And so the Asians would play and it would be some wildy impressive Sonata in Z  Major and then I would just be like "M-a-r-y - h-a-d- a- l-i-t-t-le -l-a-m-b." It too, was impressive! For a 5 year old, maybe.

▲▲  Cheesy Smile, as per usual, but hey! When you've been best buddies with someone for 12 years, it's pretty fun.

I have to say, the one disappointment was that I never heard a really strong Boston accent! Our trolley "conductor, Peppermint Patty (bless her heart) tried her best. I feel as though Boston accents are more "accent" while used in angry rage? Next time, I will find myself an angry Bostonian! I promise.

Kryn, over and out!

PS: You can check Emily's blog, although she hasn't posted any Boston photos.....YET! (Right frem?)

#KRYNGOESPLACES

Good morning all! I'm here to inform you that it's Boston/Maine week here on the old blog. We took a trip this weekend and it was one of those trips that went by so fast but felt like years (in a good way! happy years!) I feel as though I won't find a humorous way to share my thoughts about the trip, mostly since my thoughts are like "GAHHH! MAINE IS MAGIC!" But maybe you find that humorous? Maybe read these at 2 in the morning, since everything is funnier then.

Even my blog posts, I hope!

Today, a video! But first, let me apologize for a few things....
-I got my hair cut! Of course, hair never looks how one wants while traveling, so please pretend you didn't notice.
-And I really liked my shoes, apparently! Hope you do too, since you will see them about 90 times.
-My video making skills make our day look like a snooze-fest. I promise, it wasn't!
-the name is purely inspired by forgetfulness and laziness. I'm overflowing with fruit of the spirit, clearly!

It was a nice try! Someone please introduce me to a tripod, I feel as though we might really hit it off.

New york CITAY!

Welcome to another installment of  "How to pronounce with Kryn!" Cue the awkward clapping theme song and grab a family in matching outfits, and we've got ourselves a game show fit for kings!

Of what, I'm not sure though.

So let's talk New York City. Actually, scratch that. It's New York CITAY! This one I actually didn't totally make up, so let's just hope it's not copyrighted or something. Do I look like a criminal to you? I mean, I cried when I broke my makeup....so devious. Back to the CITAY (it's just so fun to say!) It's actually loosely or kind of totally based of a Pace commercial. But we've been saying it for so long now that it's practically a family tradition.

'Cause every one has a family tradition based on a salsa commercial. EVERYONE.

Cue the awkward clapping music, it's time for a commercial break! (But of course, don't touch that dial, there is plenty more on channel CHEESE!)
▲▲ parks are so refreshing in the city. And everyone else thinks so to! (We went to Central Park and Battery Park, the latter with a nice view of Miss Liberty!)
▲▲ contemplating life's most difficult decisions....stripes or polka dots?

▲▲ Of course, Taxi pictures! My guess, but if you looked at NYC from above, it would be 99.99999 (just to be safe!) perfect yellow. Give or take.
▲▲ Ah, Time Square! The largest public place showcasing the depravity of man! Oh, the joy! More on this later.
.
▲▲ Alligator attack! Rawr. Or something!

Have you ever been to New York? If so, what was your favorite thing about it? One more post about NY, and then I promise I'll shut my trap forever! Or until we go again, whichever comes first!
