Miss Mondrian

Nancy Drew and Steve Jobs had nothing in common until they became my style aspirations for 2017. The two made a fabulous couple and accompanied me through a lot of life changes. I moved to Texas. Studied Biology. Got hurt and heartbroken and heart flooded. Turned 20. My life is so very different from when I set out to dress like a 1940's detective mixed with an 80's nerd. Though the black turtlenecks and wool skirts still fit...the overall style seems less fitting now.

That being said, I love black turtlenecks! Heck, I'm wearing one right now. They're not going anywhere (except hopefully the washer?) this year. The shift in I felt in my style was mostly minuscule. Less frilly, more firm. Less passive, more pronounced. Less softness, more strength.

Enter: Miss Mondrian. 

I've always loved Piet Mondrian's prints (Heres one I saw in Amsterdam!) They're so simple, yet so thoughtful. The lines are clear, the colors are bold and very recognizable. It's easy to spot a Mondrian from a mile away because they all have such similar structures. Yet upon further investigation, each piece is extremely thoughtful and one of a kind. 

How does this translate to clothes, you might ask?

Statement colors. Straight cuts. Structure. Simplicity. And maybe some shoulder pads? But only time will tell.

Lines, Lashes, Lips and overall...LESS.

The Miss Mondrian starter pack also includes a makeup transformation as well. And mascara is 100% optional (bold red lips are definitely not though.) Like the Mondrian prints, its about creating a clean canvas and then adding small bursts of color without cluttering the canvas. 

I'm excited to implement Miss Mondrian. Since I'll never be Miss America and I'm still too young to audition for The Bachelor...this is the next best thing!

THE LITTLE JACKET THAT COULD

I got this jacket in Miami, it's weird that I'd have to go closer to the equator to find a decent jacket but you know, that's Florida for you. Anyway, it's proven to be the best $40 I've ever spent. The pockets are perfect for my passport, phone and candy ;) (and tampons! if need be) 

When I was in Dallas (at the arboretum) I was wearing this jacket and taking photos. When we got back in the car I thought that those photos looked kind of similar...then I realized it was because I wear the SAME jacket on literally every trip. Same pose, same jacket, same sad attempt at being a model; It was all so familiar. Then I was curious at how many photos I've actually taken in the infamous green Jacket....

and the rest was history! (/a blog post?)

ONE: SAN FRAN // I'm not sure if this was the inaugural trip with said jacket but either way, wow. God has been good to me. 

TWO: D.C BLOSSOMS // Cherry Blossoms are my favorite thing so of course, I had to wear my beloved jacket! I also didn't have another jacket, but that has nothing to do with it. Also, RIP to the days of ban.do pins! (Here's the DC post, in case you're curious/love cherry blossoms!)

THREE: THE AFTERLIFE?? // Though it isn't as aesthetically pleasing, this one is the best. Shows how practical this jacket can be, right? Nothing like laying in the road near some strategically splattered ketchup for the sake of art.

FOUR: SAN FRAN AGAIN // Back in San Fran and of course, with a new Ban.Do pin. Maybe it was a sign though, because this was the trip that I tripped on Jen Gotch's skirt. (Original post)

FIVE: COLD WEATHER // Ice skating in florida is always tricky because no one really has winter coats. So we either freeze or...freeze. But it's a fun thing to experience for three hours so we manage.

SIX: AMSTERDAM //  It wasn't really cold enough for a jacket that day but still, I was on a trip so it seemed like a mandatory choice.  (Amsterdam and Ansel Elgort, All in one post!)

SEVEN: SEATTLE // These are some of my most favorite travel pictures/memories ever, so  what a bonus that the sacred green jacket is a part of them.  (More Seattle Photos here!)

EIGHT: TAMPA // Katie and I had totally matching outfits, right down to the brand of our glasses. Moral of the story: wear green jackets and you will get to unintentionally twin with your friends.

NINE: DALLAS // This is the most recent adventure I've had in this jacket. It was FREEZING this day so I also had a mexican blanket wrapped around me...except when the camera came out. (arboretum post)

TEN: HOME // Obviously this is old and obviously I'm aware of the fact that I peaked during senior year so please don't remind me of how much better I/my hair looked. But hey, look at my jacket! Unlike me, it gets better with age.

I don't have any more trips planned currently (other than you know, the daily trips to Target) but you can bet that next time I pack a suitcase, this is gonna be the first thing I throw in.

I mean pack lovingly with care ;)

NANCY AND STEVE.

What do Nancy Drew and Steve Jobs have in common? Nothing...until now.
I grew up reading Nancy Drew Mysteries. I'm also a millennial, a product of the Steve Jobs generation. I really shouldn't be surprised that in my 19th year of living, Nancy and Steve are my biggest style inspirations. Why? Let me explain.

Nancy is a classy lady, through and through. She solves crimes in pencil skirts and kitten heels. Though the covers were slightly abstract, I can only imagine she wore pearls and bows and ruffle blouses as well. And while she probably would have scoffed at Steve Jobs sneakers (You and me both, Nanc) there's something to be said about his simplistic style. First of all, a good black turtleneck is a gift from the heavens and a saving grace on "I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR" days. And finally, he wore the same thing every day. How boring, but also brave and inspiring. Steve's wardrobe is the epitome of minimal simplicity and wonderful in every way.

Trade the sneakers for kitten heels and you've got yourself my wardrobe inspiration for 2017.

Tray tables up, bandanas on.

I mean, we shouldn't be surprised that I like this look. I've grown up on airplanes, I can sleep better in the middle seat than I do in my own bed and I know full well that you never inflate your life vest inside the aircraft.

That being said, this look is confusing. Is it western, cowboy bandana vibes in full swing? Or is it a flight attendant style, parked best with prepackaged peanuts? Or a rich grandma from New England, one who embodies Martha Steward in every sense (except the being a criminal sense)? Is it a necktie, a scarf, a neck scarf, a bandana or ???

So many questions. If only we had a safety information video to answer them all and set us straight. But since we are not that fortunate, you'll just have to wing it like me and hope and pray you pull off the flight attendant look, outside of an airport and on the ground. As far as purchasing little squares of material to tie around your neck for an instagram photo, Urban and Zara have some first class options. But if you're more of a coach or on a desperate occasion, cargo kind of girl like myself, Walmart and Target should do the trick.

Bon Voyage friends! Just remember, even if the bag does not inflate, oxygen will be flowing.

DENIM DREAMS

Do you sometimes go on Pinterest? Do you sometimes go on Pinterest and pin a lot of things? And then, maybe, do you sometimes go on Pinterest and pin a bunch of things and then notice that those things all look the same?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

My style board is full of denim and white.....which is Ironic because I can't stand to wear jeans and I actually don't own a white shirt that can be worn without 15 camis (hashtag team no sheer). So this entire collection of outfits that i've pinned, saved and now posted is actually something that I'll never wear.

Then again, it's summer! So why get dressed when you can just pin things and plan your imaginary wardrobe?

DEAR J.CREW, I LOVE YOU.

I first heard (or rather read) of  J.Crew in a book seven summers ago. Borrowing it from the library countless times, I would pour over the pages that were lined with images of Michelle Obama. Of all people! "She's relatable, she's not different from you or me. After all, she wears J.Crew!"or so the book tried to convince me.

Though it wasn't successful in convincing me of Michelle's relatability, it did introduce me to J.Crew.

And oh, do I love J.Crew.

C is for citron

 

Is it weird that lemons and limes give me cuddly feelings?

I don't think so!

That being said, citron is just as cuddly! It's like a good old quilt and a steaming mug of cocoa on a rainy day. And of course, a good bit a procrastination mixed in. Those rainy days, shoot.

Anyway! Citron is one of my faves and yeah I could say yellow but I could also be boring, and that's boring. I could also try using some logic, but maybe not! Thumbs up for citron and that this ramble fest is coming to an end.
