#BLESSED

If we rate my weekend based on my laser tag score, then it was wonderful!
But if we are judging based on my go kart driving abilities.....

Is being lapped 3 times a bad thing?!
Our youth group winter retreat was this weekend. Which honestly, not sure why we bothered stressing the winter theme of it because really! Look at the photos! Between general sessions (teen pact vibes!) and a sleepover (where we actually got some sleep!) it was a good weekend.

The best part was mini golf right at sunset! (I seem to have an sixth sense for sunset timings!) After we got dumped by the 20 year old guys we were playing laser tag with, we snagged Bostwick and hit the course. Somehow we managed running out of time (maybe it was a few too many "hole in 439's")   but as we ran through the final holes (with only momentary pauses for photos!) it was without a doubt, the best part of the weekend.

I happen to be friends with quite a few 15 year olds, but Bostwick tops them all. (especially when he offers to hold my jacket for me...and then ends up wearing it for the rest of the night.) My first encounter with him was the opening night of Pride and Prejudice. I was behind the curtain and suffering from extreme stage fright. My friend Andrew was consoling me and then out of the blue, some red head kid joined in and somehow we all just ended up hugging one another and bonding and sharing a really deep emotional moment.

Or something like that.

But anyway!

CAN WE JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO ADMIRE THE ALIEN WHO FLEW HER UFO TO EARTH JUST TO PHOTOBOMB. Oh wait....it's just Emily! Also, these 3 are gems beyond words! I love them all to death.

So anyway, yes. It was a wonderful winter retreat....minus the winter of course! (and despite my lack of driving abilities.) It revealed WHY God put certain people in my life (some to test me, some to bless me!) And I am thankful everyday to be apart of something bigger than myself.

#blessed #life #hatersbackoff ;)

FEB 15TH

Depends on who you ask, but Valentines day is pretty much a commercial holiday. Yeah of course there is that story about Saint Valentine, I’m fairly certain St. Val wouldn’t be too impressed with the candy hearts (TXT ME) (LUV U) and the teddy bears (but then, I’m with him on that one.)

More over, Valentines day is a manufactured holiday celebrating generic, meaningless love.

I also pride myself on my optimism!

The thing about the worldly love, is that its fake. Only as deep as the box of truffles and bouquet of roses. Once the truffles have been consumed (but not forgotten… “a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!) and the roses have wilted….what’s left?

Woven in amongst the many the’s and thous, the world Love is mentioned in the Bible 551 times. And not once is it referring to sexy romantic getaways or chocolate covered strawberries. Out of all 551 (Gosh what an uneven number! couldn’t Jesus have said it one more time!??!) times the word is used, it’s never used lightly. Love is something real, something greater than how we feel about paint color or a pair of shoes.

Love is so much more.

"LOVE IS PATIENT, LOVE IS KIND. IT DOES NOT ENVY, IT DOES NOT BOAST, IT IS NOT PROUD. LOVE IS NOT RUDE, SELF SEEKING OR EASILY ANGERED AND IT KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS. LOVE ALWAYS PROTECTS, ALWAYS TRUSTS, ALWAYS HOPES.
LOVE NEVER FAILS."

Valentines day is done and the world will be returning to monotony. But as Christians, every day should be a celebration of the love that made us and sustains us. Everyday we deserve to eat guilt free chocolate because gosh darn it, we are made in the image of God! And I don’t know about you, but I’m guessing God doesn't have to worry about counting calories.

So here’s to a never ending Valentines day, a daily celebration of TRUE LOVE. A 24/7, 365 fete exalting the Love of Christ, love that lasts beyond a dozen roses and a candlelight dinner.

GO FORTH IN LOVE FRIENDS!
(as in, go to Target cause the chocolate is on sale!)

A GUIDE TO MOODS AND MOVIES

I'll be honest, I'm not a movie junkie or obsessed or anything, but there is a rare moment in time when the mood strikes, and I watch like 50 movies in one day. There is no middle ground. So! That prompted me to do what I (theoretically) do best....a blog post!

KRYN'S GUIDE TO MOODS AND MOVIES:
Your mood. Your movie. You decide.

MOOD// You were blissfully unaware of the fact that your pants were inside out....until your crush pointed it out.

MOVIE// Princess Diaries!
Watch #1 if you're needing a self esteem boost (you may not be a princess, but you're probably not as awkward as Mia Thermopolis) and #2 if you love a good love triangle (How is it that Mia got 2 guys to fall in love with her....and I can't even get a cat to look at me?)
                        _______________________________________________________

MOOD// Questioning the existence of God, maturity and flying monkeys.

MOVIE// Bruce Almighty!
Beware, if you have a sense of humor similar to that of an 8 year old, this movie might make you laugh uncontrollably. You have been warned. Side effects of laughing too hard include trouble breathing, panting, peeing, and unexpected abs.

                        _______________________________________________________

MOOD// Another friend got engaged.

MOVIE// Safe Haven.
Progression of thoughts while watching: "Not all marriages work!! See, this is a great movie! Oh wait, she falling in love with a cute guy.....now they're slow dancing...now they're, well never mind! Darn, I guess everybody does find love after all. Thankfully I have nutella, that's the same kind of thing."

MOOD// You stepped in gum, got dumped, or the waiter took your food before you were finished.

MOVIE// Bourne Identity.
I will never tire of seeing Jason Bourne run around Europe in that terrible turtleneck (God rest those threads.) Also, I suggest keeping the mute button handy, as the sound of snapping necks is not one that leaves quickly.
______________________________________________

MOOD// Craving the innocence of childhood....and all the snack foods that come along with it.

M O V I E// Monsters University
One time I was being held hostage, and I had exhausted all options of entertainment. So I reluctantly watched this, this movie with animated creatures and multicolored beings....and it was good! So next time you find yourself in a hostage situation (I mean an 8 hour flight...) look no further than our weirdly shaped friends.
                                    ______________________________________________

MOOD// You just watched all 3 versions of Pride and Prejudice, googled Colin Firth multiple times and joined a Jane Austen fan club page on Facebook....now what?

MOVIE// North and South.
It's got all the goodness of those Jane Austen classics (men in suits. men with manners. men in general.)....but without the emotional commitment. Two things to take note of: spellbinding Scottish accents and Downton Abbey characters before they were Downton Abbey characters. Worth your time, I promise.

There you have it! Kryn's guide to moods and movies, sponsored by procrastination! These movies are best enjoyed when watched on a cold day, and while wearing pajamas (preferably the footie variety.) and when you're avoiding piles of laundry, homework or bills (depending on which stage of life you're at.)

HOW TO BE A KRYN

When you hug a friend....and a necklace falls out of your shorts,
when you ask her if she brought her bra at Publix,
when yesterdays mascara is today's eyeliner,
and when you find out you're related to Obama,

YOU KNOW YOU'RE A KRYN
(a rare breed, thank God.)
